Band History:

Marco Esu was born in San Gavino Monreale (a small town in Sardinia) on 16 December 1973. He took his first steps in the art world when he was just 8 years old, initially showing interest in the figurative arts. Subsequently, thanks to his sisters who were studying piano, Marco began to take an interest in music and with some help from them, he learned his first tunes.

When he was about fifteen years old, Marco began to study the guitar and create his first melodies in his own distinctive style, eventually making him stand out from the others in his field. Being self-taught initially and listening to a wide range of musical styles, including Jazz, he grew to love improvisation, which will often feature widely in most of his concerts.

Having studied the guitar for two years, Marco then decided to learn the technical side of music from Antonello Lixi, a guitarist he held in high esteem. Lixi taught him the technique and theory involved with his instrument and also instilled in him a passion for South American music, which was an important part of the maestro’s repertoire at the time. Marco also studied with other maestri like Patrice Graff (otherwise known as “Tito”), Jorge Cardoso at a specialisation course in classical guitar and other specialisation courses arranged by maestro Marco Meloni, the director of “la Nuova Accademia”.

When he was sixteen, Marco began to play in bands as their solo guitarist, moving from one genre to another. This experience enabled him to learn more and more styles of music and taught him to appreciate the pleasure of performing for an audience, something that he adores.

In 1994 Marco won a regional competition for electric guitars (solo 6 corde) by presenting improvised tunes for the guitar and a beautiful composition by guitarist Joe Satriani (Midnight).

Marco performed with groups like Slamina and Wizard but it was Axioma that had considerable success with the public and also some journalists who wrote some interesting articles about them. Axioma’s musical genre was barely acceptable in Sardinia and was practically censored due to the band’s “Rock” style. However, thanks to their fans and concerts dedicated to Rock and Metal music, they were still able to perform their repertoire and produced their own CD.

Axioma featured Marco Esu at the guitar, Giovanni Serra at the bass, Giuseppe Melis on drums and Emanuele Pittau was the singer and responsible for lyrics. Fabrizio Melas had been the band’s first drummer and it was with him that the band was initially formed.

Marco took up his solo career again in 1996, setting his dear friend, song-writer and singer, Simone Uteri’s lyrics to music. Together with Simone, Marco was able to sing in various venues and musical festivals and some favourable articles were written about their artistic musical achievements and poetic work.

Marco and Simone then formed another band, which they called S.A.A.S.D.N.A. The band, which specialised in experimental music, featured Andrea Ruggeri on drums and Stefano Porceddu on bass and were later joined by Emanuele Contis on the saxophone, Matteo Muntoni on the bass and Valentina Urban as the singer and on the violoncello. They performed the drummer’s compositions, which were arranged by the band. At the same time, Marco decided to also perform in the “Marco Esu Duo”, which participated in the Sant’Anna Arresi International Jazz Festival, one of the most important jazz events in Sardinia. Marco then worked with fashion designer, Zigno (who he respects and admires for his brilliance) and with him, he was able to perform his compositions live on television and in many other fashion parades with Sardinian designers of haute couture and famous models.

It was thanks to the fashion parades that Marco was also able to work with the great Sardinian painter, Sergio Putzu, who is very interested in social problems and the maintenance of popular traditions.

With all these experiences behind him, Marco then worked with the on-line newspaper, Capitanata.it and wrote a number of articles for their music section. The Internet proved to be invaluable for him in publicising his most recent work during September 2003.

After an initial presentation period on their site, Marco signed a contract with Sabino Mogavero at Idyllium s.n.c., who found him ideal for his style of publishing. At the same time, his involvement with Italian sites like Jazzitalia.net and “Portare la musica - a group of young and famous Italian musicians, bound by the aim of offering music, a gift they themselves received, to those who would otherwise not have access to it.

Offering high-level concerts to the disabled, the ill, elderly people, inmates, children in need, we try to contribute in destroying the walls of prejudice and selfishness and to realise an exchange of experiences and communication.” also helped him to learn a great deal and to raise his profile.

Marco’s new CD was completed after this period and he called it “U.S.E. Angiola”. The CD features ten classic guitar tracks in various styles. The CD’s success enables him, together with his publisher at Idyllium, to obtain an international recording contract with Australian record producing company, Blue Pie Productions. It is thanks to its CEO, Damien Reilly, that the CD will be released in various countries, like Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Canada and Italy. The CD already appears on many soundtracks in Australia. And ...

Marco has many plans for the future, including a new CD and more musical and artistic publications. Autor Marco Esu

Silverchair will be back with a bang in 2006!

Silverchair Are Back!

by Tim Cashmere, www.undercover.com.au

November 18 2005

Silverchair had effectively, although not officially broken up and apart from a one off performance at Wave Aid in January this year had been out of the spotlight for close to three years.

The band has confirmed that they are writing new material again in regional New South Wales and plan on recording an album and “doing a few shows” in 2006.

During the break singer/guitarist Daniel Johns formed The Dissociatives with Paul Mac and drummer Ben Gilles formed Tambalane and independently released a small, but well praised album.

Stay tuned to Undercover for more details about Silverchair’s resurgence into the mainstream.

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die!

Newsboys conquer foreign shores, read all about it!

"All the young dudes, carry the news"

Ian Hunter, Mott the Hoople

Newsboys make headlines abroad

Saturday Nov 19, news.ninemsn.com.au

They have sold six million records, headlined festivals attended by more than 100,000 people and are high on the list of Australia's top earning entertainers.

But former Sunshine Coast band Newsboys remain better known in Nashville than Noosa.

A national homecoming tour, which will see them play Australia's biggest Christian music festival at Toowoomba next Easter and Sydney's massive Hillsong church, could change all that.

The five-piece outfit, which started in an egg carton-lined garage in Mooloolaba almost 20 years ago, will be the main attraction at the Australian Gospel Music Festival (AGMF), which is expected to draw up to 40,000 people.

For Newsboys frontman Peter Furler and drummer Duncan Phillips, who grew up together on the Sunshine Coast, the show will be the first real opportunity to show a big Aussie crowd what the Yanks have been lapping up for years.

Newsboys, which has a rock sound with flavours of U2, Midnight Oil and INXS, has been one of the unsung export success stories of Australian music.

The band has had six gold records in the US with sales of more than 500,000 copies each, and has been nominated as many times as Olivia Newton John for a Grammy award.

Last year, Newsboys again made BRW Magazine's rich list of Aussie entertainers after raking in $3.8 million - the same as Australia's top band, Jet.

Speaking from Nashville, Furler said he was particularly looking forward to playing at AGMF after hearing so many good things about the fast-growing festival headlined by Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian two years ago.

"This will be our first major national tour in Australia in about seven years so we are really looking forward to coming home," Furler said.

While Newsboys has played in front of 400,000 people at a World Youth Day attended by the Pope, Furler said some of his best memories were of shows in front of pumped up Australians.

AGMF event director Isaac Moody said securing Newsboys was a huge coup.

"As one of Australia's most successful music exports, Newsboys are in enormous demand internationally. We've been working to bring Newsboys to our festival for years now and after months of negotiation we are honoured to announce that Newsboys will be the headline artist at AGMF 06.

"With over 40,000 people in attendance, AGMF is a fitting event for a band of the Newsboys calibre.

"We expect thousands of interstate and international punters to attend AGMF specifically because Newsboys are headlining."

Furler, who also has his own record label, said Australian artists like Grammy winner Rebecca St James and Hillsong Church's Darlene Zschech were also selling millions of records in the US.

"Aussie music is gaining a lot of respect here," he said.

Newsboys has produced 13 albums and is working on its first double album which is due out about the same time as the Aussie tour which will take in Adelaide on April 13, Toowoomba on April 15, Melbourne on April 21 and Sydney on April 22.

Like U2's Bono, Furler is using his following to raise the profile of the world's poor.

The band recently donated all of its takings from one of its biggest shows to Hurricane Katrina victims. And in August, Newsboys joined 1,000 young people in Baja, Mexico, to build houses for the poor.

While the band has a message of hope, Furler says he's never been one to use his platform to preach.

"If we are doing any preaching - it is preaching to ourselves."

He said the secret of the band's success was learned in the early days of dodging beer bottles in Sunshine Coast pubs - play great music and "never try to sound like anyone else".

Indian film directors dicuss music for movies

Raring to go

by Rajiv Vijayakar, ScreenIndia.com

ll they need is that one big break that will make the world aware of their talent. In Hindi film music, music duos have been a tradition, and among duos, brothers (Husnlal-Bhagatram, Kalyanji-Anandji, Anand-Milind, Mandhir-Jatin, Jatin-Lalit, Sajid-Wajid and Salim-Suleiman) have been a regular feature. Bapi and Tutul Bhattacharya represent the latest examples of this convention. And as we all know, the Bengali contribution to Hindi films has been humungous.

In 2005, the chant-based ‘Govinda Govinda...’ from Sarkar has made waves, and Bapi and Tutul are sincerely praying and hoping that this leads to meatier assignments but not for similar work! After all, they want to exhibit their range, which also spans from the contemporary ‘Sindoori aasmaan...’ (James) to their classical number ‘Chhaa bhanwar trishna...’from Ek Hasina Thi.

Bapi and Tutul were brought up in musical surroundings in Bihar, where their mother Babli Bhattacharya was a Reader of Music and the Head of the Department of Music in Bihar University. The brothers state that their quest for commercial music brought them to Mumbai in 1993. Trained in electronics, they began to do arrangements for jingles and later composed their own - the first ones being for Ayur and Vicks Action 500.

“Simultaneously, we met lyricist Sandeep Nath, struck up a rapport with him and began to build up our repertoire of songs,” says Tutul. A meeting with Ram Gopal Varma led to an opportunity to compose one song, ‘Din hai na raat hai...’ for the album of Varma’s 2003 songless film Bhoot. “It was rendered by Usha Uthup,” says Tutul. This was followed by Ek Hasina Thi, Sarkar and James.

Is the impression that they work exclusively for Ram Gopal Varma’s film stonewalling their progress?”I hope not!” says Bapi sincerely.”We have also done Manisha Koirala’s home production Paisa Vasool in which ‘Bhaagte bhoot ki...’, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, was quite popular. Paisa Vasool was actually our first release as a film, because Bhoot was just an album. If you hear the album carefully, it was a very innovative one.”

Coming up, adds Tutul, are two interesting projects, Khosla Ka Ghosla directed by Diwakar Banerjee, in which they have done five songs as well as the background score, and Kathputhli, directed by Sanjay Khanna for Sahara One Motion Pictures.”Our work in Khosla Ka Ghosla should help us take a step forward. All the songs here are in the background because music is like another character in the film. One song in fact is like the sutradhar. It is sung by Adnan Sami.”

There has been a paradigm change in the use of music since the 12 years they have arrived in Mumbai, notes Bapi, which is also making it difficult for a newcomer to progress, and it does not mean only multiple music makers in one film.”Today the audio is barely selling. Music is not doing well in physical formats. There is a phase of songless movies and confused filmmakers. To assess a music director’s worth, good situations and romantic songs are needed, whereas most of the songs wanted today are either ’item’ songs or theme numbers.”

Adds Tutul,”A hit song has no relevance in the scene today, and there is no filmmaker coming with a script and a brief about the 5 situations where a song can be composed.”

The duo claim that their music is different and innovative because of a lot of stress on sound design.”We also use unusual voices like that of Usha Uthup and Pandit Jasraj,” says Bapi. Echoes Tutul,”As musicians we are satisfied with our work. But we do want to make commercial progress. We have a good stock as well as understanding of what goes into good film music. Our musical styling and rhyming are different and not cliched. In ‘Chhaa bhanwar trishna...’ the composition is in the 7-8 beat, the orchestration is 5-8 and the rhythm in 13-8. We also infuse our stamp in other innovative ways.”

Another Bapi-Tutul habit is vocal designing of a song, complete with backing vocals.”We want a soulful quality in our songs that can only come from acoustics, not electronics,” says Tutul.”We do not want to approach music in a stereotyped fashion.”

The use of ‘Govinda...’ in Sarkar was also a case in point.”Ramuji wanted a part of the background score in verse. There was a relevance to the characters and an emphasis on the tussle between right and wrong.”

The brothers admit that their work for Ram Gopal Varma has been limited because of his known aversion to music in his films, but do not think that this too has come in the way of their work.”For us, it is enough that Amitabhji said, ’Great work!’ when he heard ‘Govinda...’”

Bapi-Tutul also lay great emphasis on folk music.”Regardless of trends that come and go, our folk music will always click with the audiences!” Tutul declares. They add that our film music is the perfect fusion music with an Indian base and symphony-like orchestration.”In these days when the world is waking up to India, I think that we should take our music to international levels rather than making fake Western music! Indian folk and classical have long-lasting value. It is sad that we are imitating them when Indian musicians are so much in demand there and even foreigners are playing our music!”says Bapi.

He adds passionately,”Our folk music resembles elements of jazz, a musical form that is popular worldwide. That shows how much potential it has to get universal popularity. Just to give one example, the pentatonic minor scale has the same notes and beats as Raag Bhupali. Our folk music has elements of sounds used there, but we don’t exploit that. Our various gharanas also exercise bandhans on their disciples as they want only their styles to flourish.”

The duo also decry the Punjabi folk overdrive that is undermining the rich treasury of folk music from so many other states of India.”It is being ignorant to state that Punjabi beats have intrinsic popular appeal because it is beats-oriented and peppy. The traditional genre of music called ‘Aala Udhal’ from UP and Bihar, to give just one example, has elements similar to rock. But we are aping them instead! Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kashmir, the South - our music is so varied and rich, but all we are making in these days when Indian music is being taken globally is the same old mix of Punjabi and Western music.”

In short, the brothers conclude, music has become more of showmanship and marketing. Making good music today is nothing less than a challenge! they sign off.

TV performances help J D / INXS, Aussie music Idols sell lots of CDs

They're the golden idols of millions

Jonathon Moran, from thecouriermail.news.com.au

AUSTRALIAN music lovers are buying more products by local artists, and recordings by Australian Idol singers are among the most popular.

Performers from the reality television show have again led a line-up of local artists at the fourth annual ARIA Number One Chart Awards in Sydney.

Twenty-two Australian performers received awards yesterday in recognition of sales successes.

The number meant more local artists had achieved No.1 albums than in any year of the ARIA's 22-year history.

The winners racked up 30 separate entries at No.1 on the Australian Record Industry Association album, singles or DVD charts in the past 16 months.

Seven were by Australian Idol competitors Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Paulini Curuenevuli, Casey Donovan, Anthony Callea, Cosima De Vito and Joel Turner.

"Australian Idol is great," said Donovan, 17, who won the last series of the show. "It kicks you into the industry and gets you to where you want to be.

"Every artist there today deserves everything and has worked hard all year."

For the second year running, Sydney-based Christian group Hillsong received an ARIA No.1 Chart Award for their DVD, God He Reigns. The ARIA Number One Chart Awards differ from the annual ARIA music awards, as they are based solely on retail sales from August of one year to November of the next.

Artists who could not attend the event sent video messages.

Missy Higgins received five ARIA awards last month and yesterday added three more for her album Sound of White, EP Scar and DVD I'll Tell You Mine If You Tell Me Yours.

"It has been such an amazing year for me," Higgins said from the US where she is touring.

The ARIA Number One Chart Awards topped off a great week for Keith Urban, who was this week voted Entertainer of the Year and Vocalist of the Year at the US Country Music Association awards in New York.

"You don't understand how much it means to me to be over here in the States and know back home there are people helping get our music out," Urban said.

SLIMEY THINGS:

Slimey Things are a progressive experimental kitsch sci-fi electronic pop/rock band based in Sydney, Australia. The infamous group, known for their hybrid of infectious songs and energetic and upbeat live performances, Slimey Things have received much acclaim as one of the most unique acts in Sydney. Infusing lots of special effects, such as lasers, sci-fi and space sounds and explosions to give their listeners an outer space, movie-like reality as experienced back in the 80's.

A tight outfit for over five years, their unearthly sounds developed and evolved into an energetic blend of catchy pop, retro-futuristic rock, Zappa-esque metal, soundtrack music have seen their fan base triple since performing extensively around Sydney and the greater Sydney area.

Brought together by the enigmatic front man and guitarist Nick Soole, he unearthed other pseudo-pop maniacs, who on their own right are high-level achievers in their musical careers.

Trace Element

TRACE ELEMENT:

Queensland's alt-heavy metal group started life 18 months ago in the Gold Coast when Nathan Ballard advertised in the local newspaper for band members. After a couple of line-up changes Trace Element's line-up was finally complete. Trace Element consists of Nathan Ballard (Vocal/Lead), Scott Chapman (Rhythm), Ben Doran (Drum) and Drew Carr (Bass/Vocals). Each band member are prolific artists, each having extensive experience, actively seeking to challenge themselves and their listeners through intense and provocative performances. Trace Element released their debut album, "Brand New Day", which became a hit on local radio.

The band's regional success led to more prominent gigs where the band had gone from virtual unknowns to playing in front of a crowd of hundreds. "Brand New Day" became the fastest selling independent album released in the Gold Coast to date. Striking while the iron is hot, "Drowning", a track from their debut album became the most requested song of all time on Hot Tomato 102.9FM and eventually received national airplay throughout Australia. Blue Pie Productions spotted their exceptional talent and signed a publishing and recording deal with Trace Element. Soon after Blue Pie organised a management contract with Wayne from Voyager Music. To record an EP titled the "Forgotten Ones", the band decided to work with producer Richie Robinson (Audiolab) at Core Studios. The recording was completed within a week and is scheduled to be released early July 2005. With the combination of management support, Blue Pie and the guru production talents of Robinson, Trace Element's growing popularity, and the quality of the songs are sure to be a hit with the fans nationwide, spearheaded by their predicted hit song "Drowning". Their debut EP is a remarkable collection of great rock songs in the classic sense of the word.

Brian Elkington

'A Mark in Time", a new CD of original songs by Brian Elkington, is a refreshing example of the best of the acoustic singer-songwriter genre. It offers the sound of a gifted songwriter embracing life and drawing inspirations from life experiences – giving his song writing depth and richness.

Friends, family, home, accidental lovers and true love are some of the chapters in this story - each one part of the lyrical journey, with steps familiar to us all. It is heartfelt music that relates to every core being.

"Husband's lament" covers the coming to grips with life's choices. "Odyssey" tells the story of 10 years of chasing opportunities in music all around the United States.

Moving to Sydney 13 years ago, Brian grew up loving country music in another country – USA. Born in Northern Minnesota, Brian first started playing guitar and writing music at the age of 17. He has played his original songs at some of America's greatest venues, including Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village and the Bluebird Café in Nashville.

Brian made some industry buzz with Daniel Mohs during his college years, together known as “Elkington Mohs”. The musical duo spent a decade travelling around the United States playing music, which included most of Brian's original songs. But after years of playing in the music circuit, Brian decided to leave “Elkington Mohs” behind and move on as a solo artist.

Once in Music City, Brian decided to pursue a career as a professional songwriter. Several of his poignant songs were published and recorded during his three and half years in Nashville. At this time, Brian met the love of his life, Jane and decided to move to her hometown, Sydney where they now have three daughters.

Brian Elkington

Tommee

Indonesian born, world music artist Tommee has gathered a wild and devoted following from the release of his debut album, “No Added Sugar” thanks to his trademark Kecapi (a twenty-string instrument crafted in Indonesia) and urban jungle groove vibes. An incredible voice that echoes remnants of legendary luminaries such as Bob Marley, Tommee draws great music from his idols while exploring a unique music style all of his own.

Tommee’s soulful vein music exploded onto the scene in early 2004. The ever so familiar foot tapping rhythms of Tommee’s soulful jam leaves audiences spell bound wherever he goes. His charismatic presence, his combination of style and love of ethnic musical instruments encouraged an edgy, unique sound where it is described as roots, blues, folk, reggae, gypsy, world music – all of which does not encompass one entity but welcomes all.

He landed on our shores 20 years ago, calling Sydney home. His determination to continue his musical journey by spreading his soulful jams throughout Australia led him to secure a role as keyboardist with the infamous contemporary jazz ensemble, Kalabash. This gave Tommee the opportunity o extensively tour Australia, playing in major festivals and support acts such as The Wailers, Ziggy Marley, UB40 etc.

Tommee has since spent time working on his original compositions, creating more musical harmonies and rhythmic melodies with the Kecapi. Apart from working on this album, his skill on the Kecapi has seen Tommee performing as guest musician with other prolific artists such as Bob Brozman and Harry Manx.

Tommee was born in the heart of the jungle, in a village called Bima in Sumbawa Island on the Eastern side of Indonesian archipelago. His musical journey began in his mother's kitchen, where he amused himself with an orchestra of instruments including the pots and pans and plates and buckets.

At the tender age of 12, his music teacher spotted his natural talent and star quality, introducing him to drums. It was at this point Tommee’s inspiration for music escalated where he mastered traditional and ethnic string and percussion instruments including the guitar, piano, Kecapi, Gambo and Kenong.

NHL Players and Garth Brooks teams up for Katrina relief

NHLPA, NHL become teammates with Garth Brooks to help children in need

Brooks will match dollars raised from NHL / NHLPA Katrina Relief Game-Worn Jersey Auction

NEW YORK (NHL.com, November 16, 2005) - The National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association have jointly selected Garth Brooks Teammates for Kids Foundation as the official children's charity of the NHL and NHLPA. The league-wide alliance will include players from all 30 NHL Member Clubs and utilize the League and Players' Association's full platform of marketing resources.

The partnership focuses on the Top Shelf Teammates program, a division of the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation, which contributes financial resources to non-profit organizations that benefit children's health, education and inner-city services. Since its inception in 2001, over 160 NHL players have participated in the program by donating more than $1 million to the Foundation. Players contribute a pre-determined sum based on selected on-ice performance categories.

"It's great that we can join together and become teammates to help children around the world," Brooks said. "I would like to thank the NHL, the NHL players and the NHLPA for supporting this program as well as other deserving charities."

Building on the relationship, Brooks also announced that the Teammates for Kids Foundation will match up to $1 million of all monies raised in the NHL / NHLPA online auction to benefit Katrina Relief efforts. All proceeds of the Katrina Auction will be donated to "World Vision" to support those affected by Hurricane Katrina; the auction complements the NHLPA and NHL's $1 million donation to the American Red Cross for Katrina assistance.

One of the most unique aspects of Teammates for Kids is that every dollar contributed is tripled through an affiliation with Teammates for Kids donors and that 100% of the money benefits children. The NHL and NHLPA look to add to the nearly $50 million that the foundation has generated for children's charities.

To spread the word, the NHL will use everything from scoreboards and in-arena messaging to NHL.com. All 30 Member Clubs have a player committed to help Teammates for Kids and in the near future, foundation representatives will conduct meetings with each club to inform players, managers and team representatives with the goal to further increase NHL player participation.

The online auction, which is being conducted by the NHL and NHLPA, features game-worn jerseys from the opening home games of all 30 NHL Member Clubs and is the largest auction ever conducted by the NHLPA and NHL. The auction, which began Nov. 14 and runs through Nov. 29, is available on NHL.com, NHL club websites and NHLPA.com.

"The NHL is thrilled that our players and all 30 member clubs are able to formalize our on-going relationship with Garth Brooks," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. "The whole world is familiar with Garth and his amazing music, but they may not be aware of how hard he and his foundation work to support children in need. We hope that the NHL can not only help raise money, but also help spread the word about Teammates for Kids."

"The NHLPA's Goals & Dreams fund has supported Garth Brooks' charity program since 2001-02, and the players are proud to enhance our partnership today," said Ted Saskin, Executive Director of the NHLPA. "Garth Brooks has enjoyed amazing success as a performer, but his off-stage work helping children in need has been equally impressive. It gives the players great pleasure to be working even closer with Garth to help children around the world."

About the National Hockey League Players' Association

The NHLPA launched the Goals & Dreams fund in 1999 as a way for the players to give something back to the game they love. Since inception, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund has donated full sets of equipment to more than 8,000 economically challenged children in 17 countries. To date, the players' program has donated more than $15-million to grassroots hockey programs around the world making it the largest program of its kind! Since 2001, the members of the NHLPA have donated more than $1 million to the Teammates for Kids Foundation. NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund has contributed more than $100,000 to help children in need.

About the National Hockey League

The National Hockey League, founded November 22, 1917, is the second-oldest of the four major team sports leagues in North America. Today, the NHL consists of 30 Member Clubs based in the United States and Canada. More than 31 percent of NHL players hail from outside North America from 19 different countries. Through the NHL Foundation, the League's charitable arm, the NHL raises money and awareness for Hockey Fights Cancer, Hockey's All-Star Kids and NHL Diversity, as well as supports the charitable efforts of all NHL players.

About Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation

The Top Shelf Teammates program, a division of the Garth Brooks Teammates For Kids Foundation, contributes financial resources to non-profit organizations that benefit children's health, education and inner-city services. Over 160 professional hockey players have participated in the program since its inception in 2001. Players contribute a predetermined sum based on selected on-ice performance categories such as goals scored or team wins. Every dollar contributed by players is tripled through an affiliation with other donors. Because outside sources secured by the Foundation cover all operating expenses, 100% of donated money is distributed to children's charities.

The Shortlist Music Award is now called New Pantheon Award

by Tim Cashmere Undercover.com.au

November 16 2005

The Shortlist Award has only been around for four years, but it quickly became one of the most respected awards in the musical world today, but thanks to two men going in separate paths, the 2005 award will not happen.

Shortlist co-founder has created a new award, The New Pantheon, an award that doesn’t really seem to have any differences to the Shortlist other than a different name.

The reason for the name change is because co-founder Greg Spotts has gone into the political arena as a filmmaker and commentator, while Tom Sarig has become a manager (Le Tigre’s amongst others to be precise).

Sarig wants the New Pantheon to be bigger than the Shortlist award, although it is essentially the same thing.

The judging panel is made up of journalists and artists, much like the Australian Music Prize in Australia or the Mercury Music Prize in the USA. Judges for the New Pantheon include Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, Dave Matthews, actor Elijah Wood and Aussie country star Keith Urban.

The 2005 award finalists will be announced in December, with the prize ceremony taking place in Los Angeles on February 8th, 2006.

Andy Bey now available on Little Big Music and Blue Pie

Andy Bey's silky bass-baritone voice has been called "one of the finest instruments in jazz." He's got a unique way of mixing lyrics and melody to tell a story, and after more than five decades of making music, the 64-year-old musician has a growing legion of fans worldwide.

When he was just 12, Bey was performing with Louis Jordan at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Over the next 50 years, the Newark, N.J., native performed with jazz icons including Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Horace Silver, Max Roach and Lonnie Liston Smith.

Critics are praising Bey's latest effort American Song, calling him one of the greatest singers of ballads in jazz today.

"American Song" includes 10 songbook standards with a stellar support team including flutist/tenor saxophonist Frank Wess and pianist/horn arranger Geri Allen.

"Andy Bey, a jazz singer and pianist in his mid 60's who only now is gaining recognition as one of the greats of his generation" - New York Times.

Slimey Things new EP is completed. Click here to check out the website and get all the news on the hottest Sci-Fi pop outfit on the planet. They came from planet Thaldor to save the human race and the are here for you now to listen to on MSN.

It is said that they came from the planet Thaldor, sent to study Earth-human sexual activity and breakfast cereals. Disguised as typical Earth pop music entities (although their research was somewhat less than accurate), SLIMEY THINGS create music which will astound you, amaze you and most importantly, alter the frequency of your alpha brain waves!

Click here for a serving of Space Toast.

SLIMEY THINGS, Australia’s most amazing sci-fi pop band, were first sighted in the venues of Sydney’s underground in 2001. This sextet of pseudo-pop psychos have a reputation for their infectious music and memorable, “seared into your brain” live performances.

Their unearthly sound is and energetic blend of catchy pop, futuristic 80s rock, sci-fi movie soundtrack music and zany cartoon sound effects.

Unearthed by enigmatic front man and composer Nick Soole, SLIMEY THINGS have received much acclaim as one of the most unique and important acts to emerge from Sydney.

With widespread radio airplay and their new SPACETOAST EP now available, it seems only a matter of time before the catchy rhythms of SLIMEY THINGS cannot be contained and breach Earth’s puny defenses.

2,500+ attend California podcasting conference

PODCAST EXPO ORGANIZER PLANS 2.0

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Tim Bourquin's podcasting conference last
weekend was an unexpected hit. Sources reported his planning for the
Portable Media Expo & Podcasting Conference anticipated maybe 1,000
attendees. Instead, about 2,500 people from 20 countries and 55
exhibitors showed up in Ontario, Calif. to celebrate all things
podcasting.

Bourquin is now planning for next year's event which he says will be
bigger and better. He has reserved the entire Ontario, Calif.
Convention Center. "We were sold out this time, and lots of people
couldn't attend the sessions they wanted to," he said in an interview.

Bourquin is a convention planner by vocation and a podcaster by
avocation. He and his brother produce the Podcast Brothers, a program
targeted to businesses that want to do their own podcasts.

"We had two groups of people attending," he said. The first was folks
who just want to do better podcasts and who wanted to meet other
podcasters. Then there were the corporate folks who work for companies
which want to get into podcasting and do it in a way that puts them in
a good light."

Bourquin said next year's show, scheduled for Sept. 29 and 30, will be
more structured. "We'll probably be creating 'tracks', maybe five or
six," with programming that caters to various interests, "One for
hobbyists, one for the business side of things. With more room, we'll
be able to break it down."

Recordings of the Expo's sessions will be available in a few weeks, for
a fee, Bourquin said. "We're collecting releases now from the
presenters," who included Weblogs Inc.'s Jason Calacanis, Leo Laporte,
and Make magazine's Phillip Torrone. Another source for recordings is
expected to be IT Conversations, he said. "They're planning on
releasing free versions at the rate of one a week, so if people are
willing to wait, they'll get them all eventually." Doug Kaye, the
executive producer of IT Conversations, estimated the first file could
be available Dec. 5.

Listen to our interview with Tim Bourquin at marketwatch.com/TVRadio.

Podcasters at the show showed lots of interest in making money with
their programs through advertising or charging subscription fees. The
producers of Mommycast, aimed at mothers, are taking one road. It is
produced by two Washington, D.C.-area suburban women. They announced a
sponsorship deal with Dixie, Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s (GP) brand of
disposable tableware. The 12-month agreement will begin next March.
Dixie product manager Erik Sjogren said, "Dixie is always looking for
creative ways to communicate with our key audiences."

David Lawrence, an experienced radio broadcaster, is pursuing another
route to revenue. He does a 10-minute interview with real estate sales
people and turns it in to "a highly produced podcast that I host and
the real estate agent stars in." The podcast appears on both the
NewHomePopcast.com Web site and the agent's home page.

Podcasting growth fueled by radio stations, Apple's iTunes

RADIO AND APPLE TO DRIVE PODCASTING

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A broadcasting-ratings service believes the
radio industry is poised to embrace, and perhaps even ingest,
podcasting.

Bridge Ratings released a survey of listeners in 10 major markets,
concluding that almost 5 million people downloaded a podcast this year.
In just five years, Bridge projected, 20% of radio listeners, or 18
million people a week, will be receiving podcasts.

"Growth will accelerate quickly due to the rapid acceptance of the
technology by the radio-broadcast industry in 2005 and Apple Computer
Inc.'s (AAPL) iTunes distribution," said Bridge's Dave Van Dyke, during
a presentation at last weekend's Portable Media Expo and Podcasting
Conference in Ontario, Calif.

The study showed 20% of users who have ever downloaded or listened to a
podcast do so weekly, and they download an average of six programs a
week. More interestingly, Van Dyke said, less than 20% listen to their
podcast downloads on an MP3 player or other digital device.

The Bridge Ratings report can be found at www.bridgeratings.com .

Marc Brossard to open nine Bonnie Raitt shows

Soul singer Marc Broussard of Carencro will tour with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bonnie Raitt beginning Nov. 28 at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, NJ. The tour is part of a busy fall and winter for Broussard, who continues to travel the nation in support of his major label debut, Carencro, on Island Records of New York City.

The label recently announced that Carencro has reached sales of 150,000 units and continues to grow. The sales have been boosted by Broussard’s latest video, Home, which remains in strong rotation on MTVU, VH1 and CMT.

On Sept. 10, he performed in Nashville as part of the ReAct Now: Music & Relief benefit held by MTV, VH1 and CMT. The event raised funds for the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other aid organizations.

Later that week, Broussard appeared on Larry King Live where he performed Home as part of King’s coverage of the hurricane relief.
Broussard has also established a “Livestrong” style bracelet on his Web site. Proceeds from the bracelet have been going to the newly created Momentary Setback Fund to benefit local Louisiana relief organizations.

NBA's Kevin Garnett donates $1.2 million for Katrina relief efforts

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Garnett is joining the long list of professional athletes who are donating to victims of Hurricane Katrina – in a big, big way.
Garnett is donating $1.2 million to build homes throughout the Gulf Coast region.

“I knew I wanted to do something,” Garnett said Friday. “But I didn’t know in detail what I wanted to do.”

Garnett is teaming with Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network charity foundation on the project. Garnett said he chose Winfrey’s foundation because 100 percent of his donation will help the victims.

“The fact that she pays the overhead of her employees and the foundation itself and just goes out and makes dreams come true ... I think it makes it more beneficial,” Garnett said. “It’s a good thing.”

Priscila Tour stretches from California to NY, PA

Winter Newsletter fro Priscilla Rocks

Read more at MySpace.com/IAmAGirl

Hi, I hope this newsletter finds you well. I first off, wanted to thank everyone who has been keeping in touch, and checking in from time to time. Your thoughts are always greatly appreciated and have helped me in ways you’ll never know. I finally feel ‘happy’ for the first time in a while out here in Los Angeles.

About 2 months ago I quit my job as a waitress, which I’ve dismally endured for almost 1 whole year. I believe the more the job occupied my time, the sadder I became from the inside, out. I don’t blame this particular restaurant, or anyone I worked with as a cause for my miserable experience. If I should point my finger disappointedly at anyone, it would be towards the customers who felt they couldn’t properly dine without being dissatisfied over some ridiculously miniscule scent of ‘nothing’; who felt as if they were superior over anyone who was in a position of serving them (a plate of eggs); who felt as if the entire universe revolved around them. I pray that none of you are like these people, and that you still uphold some trace of understanding towards your fellow man and woman who are just trying to make an honest and fairly decent living.

With my free time, I am now able to comfortably wake up around 9 a.m., exercise, read, and write. I am writing new songs, recording them, and playing them at decent shows around the city. I also enjoy painting (rather crudely), studying, listening to Velvet Underground, and drinking red wine (I’m 21 now). I’m continually learning to focus on the positive, which I truly believe has one of the strongest effects on the outcome of any situation, besides God.

The longer I remain in L.A. the more I appreciate home; my family, my friends (even the ones I feel I’ve lost touch with), the fragrance of an anticipated season (L.A. seasons consist of ‘dry’ and ‘rainy’), the serenity I found every time I closed the door behind me when I walked into my very own bedroom, the familiar sounds of my mom, my dad, and Jake, all moving around downstairs, always before I even thought about getting out of bed. The smallest things are the ones I miss the most. Which is why I’m looking forward to this Christmas, when I’ll be home to share it with my family, and hopefully, with you.

www.PriscillaRocks.com

Some of you may have noticed my website: priscillarocks.com, is no longer available. It’s sad, but true. It has recently been taken down, while a new one is being created by people out here. I don’t wish anyone to conspire that Impact Artist Promotions was responsible for taking down the website. And I want everyone to know how much I appreciated the website IAP so generously created for me, which has helped me in ways that cannot be numbered. And I would like to take this time to recommend to you, if I haven’t already, Impact Artist Promotions (www.artistpromo.com) as a company to inquire for any of your future website/artist promotion needs. The people of IAP are some of the most honest, hard-working, and genuine I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing and working with.

Please don’t take this as me overtly ‘plugging’ my friends. I’m only trying to pass good information and opportunities to you also to enjoy and share. Till the new website is up and running, please check in on me at: www.myspace.com/iamagirl where you can listen to new songs, read my blogs, and check out new pictures I post on there from time to time.
