Slimey Things

SLIMEY THINGS:

Slimey Things are a progressive experimental kitsch sci-fi electronic pop/rock band based in Sydney, Australia. The infamous group, known for their hybrid of infectious songs and energetic and upbeat live performances, Slimey Things have received much acclaim as one of the most unique acts in Sydney. Infusing lots of special effects, such as lasers, sci-fi and space sounds and explosions to give their listeners an outer space, movie-like reality as experienced back in the 80's.
A tight outfit for over five years, their unearthly sounds developed and evolved into an energetic blend of catchy pop, retro-futuristic rock, Zappa-esque metal, soundtrack music have seen their fan base triple since performing extensively around Sydney and the greater Sydney area.
Brought together by the enigmatic front man and guitarist Nick Soole, he unearthed other pseudo-pop maniacs, who on their own right are high-level achievers in their musical careers.

SLIMEY THINGS ARE:

Nick Soole - Composer/ Voice/ Electric Guitar Andrew Mortensen - Electric Bass/ Voice Matt D. Ward - Drums Ian Pieterse - Alto and Baritone Sax Tristan Baker - Laptop/MIDI Guitar/ Voice Daniel Pliner - Keyboards/Piano With widespread radio airplay and memorable "seared into your brain" with live performances; it seems only a matter of time before Slimey Things' catchy rhythms cannot be contained and breach into the earth defences.

Trace Element

TRACE ELEMENT:

Queensland's alt-heavy metal group started life 18 months ago in the Gold Coast when Nathan Ballard advertised in the local newspaper for band members. After a couple of line-up changes Trace Element's line-up was finally complete. Trace Element consists of Nathan Ballard (Vocal/Lead), Scott Chapman (Rhythm), Ben Doran (Drum) and Drew Carr (Bass/Vocals). Each band member are prolific artists, each having extensive experience, actively seeking to challenge themselves and their listeners through intense and provocative performances. Trace Element released their debut album, "Brand New Day", which became a hit on local radio. The band's regional success led to more prominent gigs where the band had gone from virtual unknowns to playing in front of a crowd of hundreds. "Brand New Day" became the fastest selling independent album released in the Gold Coast to date. Striking while the iron is hot, "Drowning", a track from their debut album became the most requested song of all time on Hot Tomato 102.9FM and eventually received national airplay throughout Australia. Blue Pie Productions spotted their exceptional talent and signed a publishing and recording deal with Trace Element. Soon after Blue Pie organised a management contract with Wayne from Voyager Music. To record an EP titled the "Forgotten Ones", the band decided to work with producer Richie Robinson (Audiolab) at Core Studios. The recording was completed within a week and is scheduled to be released early July 2005. With the combination of management support, Blue Pie and the guru production talents of Robinson, Trace Element's growing popularity, and the quality of the songs are sure to be a hit with the fans nationwide, spearheaded by their predicted hit song "Drowning". Their debut EP is a remarkable collection of great rock songs in the classic sense of the word.

Brian Elkington

'A Mark in Time", a new CD of original songs by Brian Elkington, is a refreshing example of the best of the acoustic singer-songwriter genre. It offers the sound of a gifted songwriter embracing life and drawing inspirations from life experiences – giving his song writing depth and richness.

Friends, family, home, accidental lovers and true love are some of the chapters in this story - each one part of the lyrical journey, with steps familiar to us all. It is heartfelt music that relates to every core being.

"Husband's lament" covers the coming to grips with life's choices. "Odyssey" tells the story of 10 years of chasing opportunities in music all around the United States.

Moving to Sydney 13 years ago, Brian grew up loving country music in another country – USA. Born in Northern Minnesota, Brian first started playing guitar and writing music at the age of 17. He has played his original songs at some of America's greatest venues, including Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village and the Bluebird CafĂ© in Nashville.

Brian made some industry buzz with Daniel Mohs during his college years, together known as “Elkington Mohs”. The musical duo spent a decade travelling around the United States playing music, which included most of Brian's original songs. But after years of playing in the music circuit, Brian decided to leave “Elkington Mohs” behind and move on as a solo artist.

Once in Music City, Brian decided to pursue a career as a professional songwriter. Several of his poignant songs were published and recorded during his three and half years in Nashville. At this time, Brian met the love of his life, Jane and decided to move to her hometown, Sydney where they now have three daughters.

Tommee

Indonesian born, world music artist Tommee has gathered a wild and devoted following from the release of his debut album, “No Added Sugar” thanks to his trademark Kecapi (a twenty-string instrument crafted in Indonesia) and urban jungle groove vibes. An incredible voice that echoes remnants of legendary luminaries such as Bob Marley, Tommee draws great music from his idols while exploring a unique music style all of his own.

Tommee’s soulful vein music exploded onto the scene in early 2004. The ever so familiar foot tapping rhythms of Tommee’s soulful jam leaves audiences spell bound wherever he goes. His charismatic presence, his combination of style and love of ethnic musical instruments encouraged an edgy, unique sound where it is described as roots, blues, folk, reggae, gypsy, world music – all of which does not encompass one entity but welcomes all.

He landed on our shores 20 years ago, calling Sydney home. His determination to continue his musical journey by spreading his soulful jams throughout Australia led him to secure a role as keyboardist with the infamous contemporary jazz ensemble, Kalabash. This gave Tommee the opportunity o extensively tour Australia, playing in major festivals and support acts such as The Wailers, Ziggy Marley, UB40 etc.

Tommee has since spent time working on his original compositions, creating more musical harmonies and rhythmic melodies with the Kecapi. Apart from working on this album, his skill on the Kecapi has seen Tommee performing as guest musician with other prolific artists such as Bob Brozman and Harry Manx.

Tommee was born in the heart of the jungle, in a village called Bima in Sumbawa Island on the Eastern side of Indonesian archipelago. His musical journey began in his mother's kitchen, where he amused himself with an orchestra of instruments including the pots and pans and plates and buckets.

At the tender age of 12, his music teacher spotted his natural talent and star quality, introducing him to drums. It was at this point Tommee’s inspiration for music escalated where he mastered traditional and ethnic string and percussion instruments including the guitar, piano, Kecapi, Gambo and Kenong.

BIG News: Australia and Canada announce merger of nations, cultures

Announcement: Canada and Australia to merge into one nation!!!

Hot on the heels of J D Fortune joining InXS, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and Aussie PM John Howard have jointly announced that the two countries are merging into a single unit.

“When we saw how much Canadians spend in Florida, Arizona and the Caribbean, well, that is just totally enticing, and then there’s the Tim Horton’s coffee … it’s going to be fun to be Austranadian” crowed Prime Minister Howard.

“Though we sometimes wonder about the unradical sensibilities of some portions of the Australian community, we believe that together, Canadians and Australians can show the world how to get along and generally enjoy life” offered a reflective PM Martin.

Australian rockers InXS choose Canada's J D Fortune

Although the veteran Aussie rockers had fun taping their summer-long reality series, Rock Star: INXS, it was also serious business. "This whole process, the TV show, was all about finding a new singer so we can do what we do best," guitarist/saxophonist Kirk Pengilly said after the Tuesday morning taping of the show's finale at Los Angeles' CBS Studios. "And that's go out and play music."
The show's winner -- and, by definition, INXS' new lead singer -- is Canadian J.D. Fortune, who out-dueled Chicagoan Marty Casey with renditions of the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and INXS' own "What You Need," backed by his bandmates-to-be. As a consolation prize, Casey was offered an opening slot on INXS' upcoming world tour.

"I know you guys have waited a long time for this," keyboardist Andrew Farris told the audience before the band made its decision, "but we've waited even longer."

INXS, who formed in 1977 and scored hits in the Eighties and Nineties with singles like "What You Need," "Need You Tonight" and "Suicide Blonde," have been without a permanent singer since charismatic frontman Michael Hutchence was found dead in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. The band had since tried a series of vocalists, including a tour with British R&B singer Terence Trent D'Arby.

Pengilly said that this time the band feels complete. "It's been a long time since we've been onstage with a singer," he said. The chemistry was immediately apparent as Fortune joined his new bandmates for a post-taping concert that included several of the band's biggest hits, as well as a new track, "Easy, Easy."

Canadian singer Jason Dean Fortune crowned king of InXS, BBC News

A Canadian is to be the new lead singer of rock band INXS after a worldwide search to replace the late Michael Hutchence. Jason Dean Fortune, 31, known as J D Fortune, beat two other finalists and will record an album and embark on a world tour with the Australian band.

INXS held auditions in six continents as part of a reality TV series.

Since Hutchence died in 1997, INXS have continued with a number of temporary singers including Terence Trent D'Arby.

Chicago's Marty Casey may open for InXS on World Tour

Marty Casey may not be the next lead singer of INXS, but he's still a rock star.

The 31-year-old Chicago singer was the runner-up Tuesday night on the CBS reality show "Rock Star: INXS" -- a competition to find a new lead singer for the multi-platinum band.

J.D. Fortune, a musician from Canada, was the band's choice to replace former lead singer Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997. By winning the competition, Fortune will record a new CD with the band and take part in a world tour.

But don't feel too bad for Casey -- he was given a golden opportunity. After telling him they didn't choose him as their next lead singer, they did offer Casey the possibility of opening up for the band when they go on tour.

Casey, who's band the Lovehammers has been a Chicago favorite for over a decade, said it was the best of both worlds.

"When they announced that [Fortune] was the winner my heart just sank," Casey said Tuesday night. "But when they said they wanted the Lovehammers to open up their world tour, I felt like I was back from the abyss, and it kind of feels like its the right thing to happen for me."

In the weeks and months to come, the Toronto musician will front a world tour with the band and sing on their new album. Shortly after a rousing rendition of You Can't Always Get What You Want, Fortune was chosen in a glitzy finale to the popular show to replace Michael Hutchence, who hanged himself in a hotel room in 1997.
