The Original Angels Band are John Brewster - Chris Bailey - Graham 'Buzz' Bidstrup - Rick Brewster, four of the original members of The Angels, (Angels City in Europe and USA), who recorded the band’s first 4 albums ‘Face To Face’, ‘No Exit’, ‘Darkroom’ and the debut album ‘The Angels’. (Circa 1976 - 1982).
'LIVE AT THE BASEMENT'
On a warm February evening in Perth in 2002 through sheer co-incidence and serendipity, the four of us found ourselves onstage together again after a gap of 20 years at a charity concert for victims of the Bali bombing. We played for about an hour the songs we could remember off the cuff. We had so much fun, felt so useful and we were overwhelmed by the audience response - it was incredibly uplifting and uniting.
..... Fast forward to November 2004, and it's The Basement, Sydney, up close and personal. We played the classic Angels hits that we liked true to the old feels. Some treated with acoustic guitar, a few new and obscure numbers and some just the way you remember them. We just let the songs do the talking.
The vibe in the room was rapturous! People cried. We got a bit loose in parts but the songs and the passion stood the test of time.
This is the record of that unforgettable night featuring 16 timeless classics including Marseilles, Take A Long Line, No Secrets and includes BONUS DISC - Newly recorded versions of 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' and 'Round We Go' celebrating the 30th Anniversary of THE ANGELS debut single.
'LIVE AT THE BASEMENT' is available instore throughout Australia via MGM 19th September 2005 and via this web site now.
LIVE PERFORMANCE
Together The Original Angels Band have re established themselves as one of Australia's premier live rock bands and they continue to tour the continent with ecstatic fans across the nation keeping them on stage for encore after encore.
Be it in semi acoustic mode or armed in full metal jacket, these shows bring back that famous twin guitar assault of The Brewster Brothers and features the rock solid rhythm section of Bidstrup and Bailey, Australia's finest. Couple this with the four way harmonies that once had no space in The Angels repertoire and the electrifying chemistry produced by this quartet and there is simply no denying The Original Angels Band is the heart and soul of the hits that made The Angels famous.
There is no need for theatrical stunts, this is all about the music, Australian Rock at it's best.
RECENT REVIEWS
"The Angels Band and Rose Tattoo show at Rooty Hill RSL was a real acid test. Not for the Tatts who put in a typically storming set less their signatory 'Nice Boys'. No, the pressure was on The Angels Band, the original and best lineup without Doc Neeson. And you know what? They were great! With THAT guitar sound, John Brewster comfortably in the vocal spot and an utterly seamless and seemingly endless set list of classics it was more about the music than the rock theatre of old. The masses, even old school fans, loved it. As they should have". Murray Engleheart - Drum Media Sydney NSW 2003
"The interview with John Brewster was great, he was a gold mine of Classic Rock trivia . We played the new versions of Marseilles and Commin' Down with John on vocals, they also went down brilliantly. I have been inundated by e mails not from just Sydney but from USA as we streamed the show on the web." Simon Carey - WSFM Sydney NSW 2004
"Just a quick note to pass on how much I loved the show last night
It was true pleasures to have the band play...even if that "angels" chant did get a bit bizarre at the end! I had totally forgotten how etched in my brain all those amazing guitar lines are." Richard Moffett - Corner Hotel Melbourne 2004
"This is your best chance to see our home grown living legends. The Angels still pump out the riffs and power through oz pub-rock the way it was meant to be. The way they made it!!! Michael Liddell - Beat Magazine Melbourne 2004
This is a testament to The Original Angels Band, I have never been left standing on my own in my venue in my 35 years here. In reference to the mass exodus from the members bar and into the venue as The Original Angels Band struck their first chords - Christopher Richards, proprietor of The Basement Club Sydney June 2005
I have seen 700 bands come through here and in the past three years nothing comes close to these guys. They're exciting and something very special happens between them when they hit the stage. - Peter Pagac - Chief Entertainment Sydney October 2005.
I was totally blown away by the bands performance at the Cavern Club in Adelaide on October 15, 2005. I bought my first"Angel City" album in the late 70's. I have always been a big fan and never thought I would get to see the band from the first row in a night club. The show was fantastic, sound was great and the band was very tight. These guys are still relevant and infact I thought the new material was just as good if not better than the old stuff. The band still has something to say and I hope that they keep dishing it out. The older material was played as well as when it was recorded. The song writing and music are standing the test of time. It's interesting to see the band keep to the spirit of the original music, which is something the newer Australian acts don't seemed to understand. You don't jack around with classic songs, you keep playing them the way they were written and meant to be played, Just Like the Angels did at the Cavern club. If you have never had the chance to see one of the best rock bands of all time, check out the Angels. It's very refreshing to hear a real rock band play!!!!!!!!! Look forward to seeing you guys any time I can. Take me away to Marseille !!!

Live At The Basement (MGM) Album Review
Minus Doc Neeson, the original Angels have reconvened and are steadily touring this country's highways and byways. Their best line-up always included Buzz Bidstrup and Chris Bailey in the engine room. Buzz handled the kit, while Bailey filled things out with rolling bass parts. The Brewster Brother bookends handled stage left and right and delivered twin attack guitars.
Others came and went, but these boys had a certain magic between them. Doc was the quintessential frontman but now he's off with Red Phoenix. In his absence, the boy's have reclaimed the songs they've written and they're doing a sterling job playing them live.
John Brewster's Dylan-esque lilt highlights the poetry in the lyrics. Behind him, the band settles on a groove with just the right amount of bite. Highlights from the set include 'No Exit', 'Mr. Damage', 'Take A Long Line', 'Who Rings The Bell' and the opening gambit of 'After The Rain' and 'Fashion And Fame'.
It's a helluva set list, delivered like a prizefighter that never lost his rhythm.
