The Australian Music Prize Final Eight Announced
by Tim Cashmere
February 6 2006
The final eight for the Australian Music Prize was finally announced today. The shortlist is made up of the eight highest rated albums, judged by a panel of 61 judges from Australia’s media and retail industries, as well as a varied group of musicians.
The final eight is diverse, with some of the bigger albums mixing it with relative unknowns, showing the AMP 2005.
These albums will now be re-judged, from best to worst by a large number of judges, which will result in a single album winning $25,000 prize money and an awful lot of free publicity.
Congratulations to all the artists who made it into the top eight. The albums are:
Wolfmother – Wolfmother
The Mess Hall – Notes from a Ceiling
The Drones – Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By
Tex, Don and Charlie – All Is Forgiven
TZU – Smiling At Strangers
The Devastations – Coal
The Go Betweens – Oceans Apart
Ben Lee – Awake Is The New Asleep
