The Shortlist Music Award is now called New Pantheon Award

The Shortlist Award has only been around for four years, but it quickly became one of the most respected awards in the musical world today, but thanks to two men going in separate paths, the 2005 award will not happen.

Shortlist co-founder has created a new award, The New Pantheon, an award that doesn’t really seem to have any differences to the Shortlist other than a different name.

The reason for the name change is because co-founder Greg Spotts has gone into the political arena as a filmmaker and commentator, while Tom Sarig has become a manager (Le Tigre’s amongst others to be precise).

Sarig wants the New Pantheon to be bigger than the Shortlist award, although it is essentially the same thing.

The judging panel is made up of journalists and artists, much like the Australian Music Prize in Australia or the Mercury Music Prize in the USA. Judges for the New Pantheon include Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, Dave Matthews, actor Elijah Wood and Aussie country star Keith Urban.

The 2005 award finalists will be announced in December, with the prize ceremony taking place in Los Angeles on February 8th, 2006.
