Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” first online million-seller, Platinum Award to be presented October 21st

Gwen Stefani is set to become the first ever pop star to sell one million legal downloads.

The former No Doubt singer, turned solo star, is understood to have shifted 980,000 downloads of the track "Hollaback Girl" by early October 2005, at a rate of around 14,000 a week. The song went digitally platinum this week.

Stefani is to be presented with an award after reaching the historic landmark with sales of the track, which is taken from her debut solo album, "Love Angel Music Baby".

Stefani, who called the achievement "bananas", will be given a certificate at her show at the Hollywood Bowl in California on October 21.

She said: "It's always an honor to be recognized for your music, and this is really the coolest. It's exciting to see people embrace the song and really make it part of their lives. Whether it's CDs, computers, or cellphones...it really is bananas."

Hollaback Girl reached number one in the US charts this summer - although it only managed number eight in Britain.
